El Dorado County VINE Coverage
California VINE is a free, anonymous service reached by phone or internet, according to the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office release page. The Sheriff's description is plain. VINE watches people held at El Dorado County Jail and several surrounding counties. The jail runs two sites. Those are Placerville Jail and South Lake Tahoe Jail.
VINE is an alert network, not an arrest archive. It may report custody status for an eligible person. Later changes can trigger notice too. It does not replace the Sheriff roster, the booking record, or a Superior Court case. The county's own words live on the EDSO release-information page. That local statement is the basis for using VINE after an El Dorado County arrest.

It ties the service to county custody and supplies the current county-approved phone route.
Check an El Dorado Arrest
Begin at the official VINELink service and follow its state and agency prompts. Common names cause trouble. A precise search can pull up several records. Match every identifier you can before trusting a result, and never assume the first name that fits is the right person.
- Open VINELink and select California when asked for a state.
- Choose El Dorado County or the eligible agency context offered.
- Enter the name or identification details the form requests.
- Review possible matches and compare their custody details.
- Open the right record and select alerts if updates are needed.
A record will not show the second someone is arrested. Intake has to finish. The data must also reach the service. Check spelling and search fields first. If a name still is not there, try the El Dorado County 24 Hour Arrests fallback. You can also contact the jail directly. The VINELink search page itself shows where a California custody lookup begins.

The live form can change without warning. Follow its prompts and confirm identity from the details it returns.
Note: A missing result does not mean no arrest occurred, especially while a new booking is still being processed.
El Dorado Custody Result Fields
What VINE displays depends on the agency and the current interface. Usually it holds enough custody data to tell two people apart and flag when a tracked record changed. Treat each status as a snapshot. A release notice tracks movement in custody. It says nothing about how a criminal case ends.
| Result field | How to read it |
|---|---|
| Name or identifying data | Use it to separate close matches; do not trust a name alone. |
| Custody status | The eligible status reported through VINE at that time. |
| Facility or agency | Helps confirm an El Dorado County or other participating record. |
| Record identifier | When shown, this is a better match point than a shared name. |
| Release or transfer | A custody change that may trigger a registered notice. |
VINELink will not surface a booking photo. The Sheriff's current roster setup hides them. For current custody, the official Citizen RIMS roster can show booking number, booking date, arresting agency, arrest location, bail, status, and charge details. Public inmate photos are disabled, so no mugshot appears there either.
Register El Dorado Custody Alerts
Open the right record first. Then use its notification option. EDSO says a phone number or email may be used when those channels appear, and registration is free. Phone signup asks for a four-digit PIN, so keep it close; entering it confirms the call and stops repeats.
- Select the alert option on the verified record.
- Choose a phone or email channel that is offered.
- Enter the contact details and create the four-digit PIN.
- Review the person and notice settings before registration.
- Enter the PIN when called to confirm receipt.
More than one person can register. Each needs a separate number and PIN. EDSO notes that multiple phone numbers may be registered on a record. That helps several family members or support people. Each one can get direct notice of a custody change. The VINELink site shows the service without exposing anyone's real information.

Alert setup begins only after the correct custody record has been found and verified.
El Dorado VINE Call Pattern
El Dorado County publishes useful detail about how VINE calls work. No answer or busy line? The service retries every half hour for 24 hours. Voicemail counts as an answer of sorts. Calls may then continue every two hours for up to 24 hours. They stop once you enter the four-digit PIN.
That pattern is why the PIN matters. It is not a Citizen RIMS password. Anyone with more than one registered number should track which PIN goes with which registration. The county calls the PIN the only way to acknowledge a notification call.
The current Sheriff page lists (877) 411-5588. An older Placerville resources page lists a different VINE number. The sources conflict. Rely on the current EDSO custody page, and recheck it before trusting a saved number.
Note: A repeated VINE call reflects its acknowledgment process and does not itself identify the custody change.
El Dorado Arrest Tools Compared
Each county tool answers a different question. Citizen RIMS covers one need. It is a manual check for someone still in county custody. VINE tracks an eligible person. It can also send a custody-change notice. EDSO-OES/Ready sends hazard alerts only. Sheriff social accounts and the PIO site cover selected news, not every booking.
| Channel | Best use | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| California VINE | Track an eligible person and register for custody notices. | Not a complete arrest archive or court result. |
| Citizen RIMS | Inspect a current El Dorado County booking. | Released rows roll off; photos are disabled. |
| EDSO Records Unit | Ask about missing or released records. | Not an automatic alert service. |
| EDSO-OES/Ready | Receive community emergency alerts. | Not a custody subscription. |
| Superior Court | Follow charges and disposition. | Not a live custody locator. |
The sheriff's office lists no distinct jail app. Citizen RIMS runs as a responsive site, not an app-store product. That distinction matters. It keeps you from signing up for general emergency alerts while expecting a notice about one person's release.
Confirm El Dorado Arrest Status
VINE has limits. EDSO itself warns against treating it as a full safety plan. Data can trail a fresh arrest or a transfer between jails. Access can hiccup too. When timing is tight, confirm through a second official channel. Hold onto a booking number or case identifier. Staff can then find the right person fast.
For a new El Dorado County booking, search Citizen RIMS after intake. Missing entry? Call the jail. Placerville Jail sits at 300 Forni Road, Placerville, CA 95667, reachable at (530) 621-6000. South Lake Tahoe Jail is at 1051 Al Tahoe Boulevard. The address is South Lake Tahoe, CA 96150. Call (530) 573-3030. EDSO Records handles record requests at (530) 621-5703 in Placerville and (530) 573-3000 in South Lake Tahoe.
Someone released from custody may vanish from the current Citizen RIMS view. A booking record still exists. VINELink may have already pushed the status notice to registrants. EDSO Records remains the right office for an eligible past record. The Superior Court file is its own track, running through arraignment and disposition. Keep those stages separate. That way a roster absence never gets read as proof of anything.
Match the tool to the custody type. A person moved to state prison leaves the county roster behind. For them, use the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation CIRIS locator. Federal Bureau of Prisons custody and ICE custody fall outside the El Dorado County VINE path entirely. Each of those systems has its own federal locator.
